| Description: | This content, which is part of the multimedia material of the book Borderless Education in the Amazon: trajectory and perspectives of the UFPA distance learning, brings the report given by the of professora Marlene Freitas, who presents a detailed report on the implantation of the distance learning at the Federal University of Pará. She also talks about the necessity of overcoming the barriers, mainly those referred to the belief that a distance learning course doesn’t have the same quality as a presencial one. She still underlines the relevance of this teaching method for the North region because of its huge territory, what makes the access to the higher education and professional qualification harder. She points out the importance of the moment when the Ministry of Education assumed a distance learning policy, something that resulted into the creation of the Open University of Brazil, the reduction of the unbelief of this method and the arrival of exclusive professors to work with distance learning. She emphasizes that only through the distance learning will be possible to deliver a professional education and break with the presence of outsider teachers who still work in the marketplace nowadays. |
