| Description: | This content, which is part of the multimedia material of the book Borderless Education in the Amazon: trajectory and perspectives of the UFPA distance learning, brings the report given by the of professora Selma Leite, who talks about the trajectory of the distance learning at the Federal University of Pará. The interviewee underlines that the project began through the Secondary and Higher Education Multinational Program (PROMESUP), formed by Latin American countries and Cuba. In order to make the distance learning work at the UFPA, the professors group involved in the implantation, among them the interviewee, suffered prejudice from the professors who didn’t believe in this teaching method. She emphasizes the participation of the Open University of England in giving support to the creation of the distance learning at the UFPA, mainly to the Mathematics course. She presents the UNIREDE (Public Virtual University of Brazil) and the Open University of Brazil (UAB) as results of the implantation of the distance learning in Brazil. She points out the consortia role for the strengthening of the distance learning and also talks about how the distance learning was introduced in the PDI at the UFPA. She also reports the trajectory of some courses, among them the distance learning Mathematics major degree course with its initial difficulties. She finalizes saying that, in Pará state, all the students’ poles will soon offer, through the Open University of Brazil, training to the outsider teachers. She still refers to the necessity of an integrated planning to guarantee the access opportunities with quality. |
