Description: The project “UFPA and the Years of Lead: memory, trauma, silence and educational culture (1964-1985)” intends to gather a digital collection comprised of testimonies by professors, administrative technicians and former students of the Federal University of the State of Pará (Universidade Federal do Pará – UFPA). This content is an interview with Catarina Tancredi, born in Juruti 1942. Of Italian descent, she speaks of her childhood and of her coastal studies. Her father arrives in the Amazon running from the World War II, his wife comes next to be married here. She had several brothers, they were 6 children. She recalls her family life, talks about life in Juruti in the 40s of the twentieth century. She talks about the way to studying and how she was alphabetized. She recalls her years of studying in Alenquer, and then recalls her high school in Santarém. She was a boarding school student. There was only elementary school in Alenquer, the entire region would go to Santarém for high school. She studied at Santa Clara and Don Armando. She did the pedagogical part in Santarém and the university entrance exam in Belém. She was a UFPA freshman in 1964. She was in the house (hostel) that faced the UAP and saw the invasion of the entity by the army. In 1964, it was a female hostel, mostly students. She writes a report of the invasion to the UAP. She took the entrance exam in February, but the course only began classes in May. She recounts her experiences as a student of the administration course at UFPA and memories as a student of the University Student House, from the second half of 1966. She was one of the first residents. Met Conceição Capiberibe, sister of João Capiberibe, an Economics student and the student leadership. She evaluates that it was dangerous to oppose the military regime; little was spoken against the regime. She left UFPA in 1967. She reports the arrest of Capiberibe and her visits to him in the "São José" prison. She visits her friend Capiberibe and justifies her visits. She accounts about helping Capiberibe to escape from São José. She reports about the escape and her participation in his escape to Belém. This fact is very important for the research of youth post AI-5. Catarina reports the organization of the escape of the Santa Casa, the place that Capiberibe was receiving health care. An escape plan, which involved part of Catarina Tancredi’s brothers, was mounted. She recalls Lower Amazon students with experience in her home and the difficulties to implement the escape plan. Capiberibe flees to Santarém along with his pregnant wife and their daughter. Catarina recounts his silence after the escape, and defends the right of people to be opposed to military rule. Then she talks about her return as a professor at UFPA in 1970. She makes an assessment of dean Silveira Netto’s administration.

Note: Este conteúdo faz parte de uma série de entrevistas especiais que resgata a história da Universidade Federal do Pará durante a Ditadura Militar no Brasil (1964 a 1985), a partir de depoimentos de professores, servidores e ex-estudantes que viveram esse período na Universidade. O objetivo é registrar casos de constrangimentos e violações de direitos dos que se envolveram na luta contra o Governo Militar, sem, contudo, considerar os avanços acadêmicos e estruturais que a UFPA passou nesses anos. O projeto envolve a gravação de 48 entrevistas em profundidade e a elaboração de 05 programetes temáticos para veiculação em televisão aberta, com duração de 04 minutos cada. A pesquisa, também, envolveu documentos da ASI-UFPA e atas dos órgãos superiores da UFPA. Destaca-se, ainda, que as entrevistas em profundidade foram disponibilizadas na íntegra, ou seja, sem cortes nas falas dos depoentes. Portanto, o conteúdo dos depoimentos é de responsabilidade total dos entrevistados, que ao final das filmagens autorizaram o uso e divulgação das informações com fins educacionais pela coordenação deste projeto.
